Privacy Policy

🔒 The short version: Observra's AI runs on hardware installed at your premises. Video footage never leaves your building and is never transmitted to Observra or any third party. Only metadata (event timestamps, alert types, camera IDs) is processed through our systems.

1. Who we are

Observra ("we", "us", "our") is an AI computer vision company building edge-first surveillance intelligence for organisations across Africa. Our registered address is available on request at hello@observra.co.

2. What data we collect

We collect different categories of data depending on how you interact with us:

  • Website visitors: We collect standard web analytics data (page views, referral sources, browser type, approximate location by country). We do not use tracking cookies for advertising.
  • Waitlist and enquiry submissions: Name, email address, company name and any information you voluntarily provide in contact forms.
  • Customers (deployed product): Alert metadata only, event type, timestamp, camera identifier and confidence score. No video footage is transmitted to or stored by Observra.

3. What we do not collect

We want to be explicit about what Observra does not collect:

  • Video footage from your cameras, this never leaves your premises
  • Facial recognition data or biometric identifiers
  • Personal information about individuals detected by the AI
  • Location data beyond country-level for web analytics

4. How we use your data

Information submitted through our website is used solely to:

  • Respond to your enquiry or demo request
  • Notify you of product updates if you joined our waitlist
  • Improve our website and communications

We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Data storage and security

Website enquiry data is processed through Formspree (formspree.io) and stored securely. We retain enquiry data for 24 months or until you request deletion, whichever comes first.

For deployed customers, all video processing happens on the Observra edge device at your site. Alert metadata transmitted to the customer dashboard is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest.

6. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection law including:

  • The right to access personal data we hold about you
  • The right to correct inaccurate data
  • The right to request deletion of your data
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time

7. Third-party services

Our website uses the following third-party services:

  • Formspree, contact form processing (formspree.io)
  • Google Fonts, typeface delivery
  • GitHub Pages, website hosting

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our product and legal obligations evolve. Material changes will be communicated by email to existing customers. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
